From the tips of our fingers to our toes, good nutrition is vital for our health. For example, nails are made of a protein called ‘keratin’, so ensuring we eat enough dietary protein is essential for healthy nails. Certain vitamin and mineral deficiencies, on the other hand, can lead to brittle, weak nails that crack and break easily. Ensure you’re eating enough milk and dairy products, meat (especially organ meats such as liver), fish and eggs for nail-strengthening protein, biotin, iron, zinc and vitamin A. Vegetarian and vegan sources of these micronutrients include legumes and yellow, orange and green vegetables.
